Suitable
adhesives and correct laying techniques
Parquets should always be glued to the laying surface using
specific products. Except for the small plank, only polyurethane
two-part adhesives for wood should be used for the Premass and
Superpremass as well as all the traditional Mass elements. A
two-part polyurethane adhesive is compulsory, whatever the
dimensions, for laying on marble, ceramics, grit and a
quick-drying substrate. If special products have been used to
make the floor rough or laying surface suitable, the two-part
adhesive must be compatible with them (ideally produced by the
same firm). Parquet may only be glued on substrates for heated or
cooled floors after the heating/cooling system has reached steady
operating conditions, keeping the temperature of the laying surface
at around 20 °C. Subsequently, in normal operation, the
temperature of the wood should not exceed 25÷27 °C nor
fall below 15÷17 °C, also checking that the humidity in
the air is 45÷60%. Before applying the adhesive, the laying
surface must be cleaned so that it is free of anything that may
prevent the adhesive from gripping: dust, greasiness, work site
debris, etc. should therefore be removed. The minimum amount of
adhesive to be used is equivalent to 1,2 kg/m2, to be
spread evenly on the laying surface using a toothed scraper; this
quantity should be increased when laying on rough surfaces.
Adhesive should not be applied either to the long edges forming the
sides of the wooden floor elements, whether traditional or
pre-finished. Care must be taken when laying the pre-finished
Premass and Superpremass elements not to get adhesive on the top
surface; should this happen, the surface must be cleaned
immediately by dabbing with cotton wool soaked in a suitable
product and then drying the surface without rubbing. Attention
should be paid when laying the floor elements that they do not
touch walls, other floors, etc., always leaving the necessary space
to allow for movements, mostly transverse, of the wood. Also the
expansion joints on the substrates or bases should be repeated on
the floor.
